Italian-to-English translator

I translate books, catalogues, web sites, marketing materials and academic writings from Italian to English for publishers, businesses, non-profits and individuals. My specialist sectors include design, tourism and international cooperation.

Many of my clients have worked with me for many years. Aware that quality is important in translation, they appreciate the care I take in crafting my translations, my natural, fluid style and my eagerness to work jointly with them.

I offer special rates for non-profit organizations. I have a particular interest in international cooperation issues, especially in the areas of poverty reduction, microfinance and fair trade.

Originally from Oregon, I graduated from Sarah Lawrence College in 1996 with a Bachelor’s of Liberal Arts with focuses on cultural anthropology and foreign languages. I studied historical anthropology and Italian in Florence in 1994 at the Sarah Lawrence program in Florence and at the University of Florence. In addition to Italian, I speak and read (but do not translate) French and Dutch.

When possible, for optimal quality, I prefer to work directly with authors by email or Skype (user name: miriamhurley).
